All private hostels housing students near Dedan Kimathi University of Technology must comply with local government regulations and university standards under the Directorate of Students' Welfare.

• Wheelchair Friendliness: Hostels certified for physical challenges must include step-free ramps, wide door entry frames (minimum 85cm), and safety handrails in bathrooms.
• Auditory/Visual Supports: Ground floor placements, tactile markings, and visual safety/alarm lights.
• Support Liaison: The DSW Special Needs office assists in placing students with disabilities in verified, compliant local hostels.
